Corrective jaw surgery also known as orthognathic surgery is required when there is a discrepancy between the upper and lower jaws. There are many people who suffer from misaligned jaws. This condition can create several problems such as; difficulty in biting, chewing, and swallowing. Also it contributes to malocclusion (crooked teeth), speech problems, TMJ pain, headaches, open bites, breathing disorders, and problems with facial appearance. There are many reasons why patients may require corrective jaw surgery. Some of these conditions can exist at birth or may be a result of hereditary or environmental influences. Sometimes the condition presents during stages of rapid growth, where one jaw may grow faster then the other affecting jaw alignment. Other times it can be the result of trauma. Regardless of the cause, the surgeons at Utah Surgical Arts will perform a detailed preoperative exam and will discuss with you the risks and benefits associated with corrective jaw surgery. They will work closely with you and your orthodontist to determine what type of surgery will work best to restore you to your proper function, while obtaining optimal facial esthetics.
At the request of my sister, I decided to have Utah Surgical Arts give me a new, stronger chin. Never being one to really criticize my own chin, at first I was skeptical about how it would turn out. The surgery was fast, Dr Park was great, the recovery was as expected. Looking back after, I'm glad I made the decision to go through with it, my new chin adds adds more confidence to my profile. Dr Park was fantastic to work with both before and after the surgery, and the staff was caring and terrific.
