Procedures - Impacted Canines

Impacted tooth simply means that the tooth is unable to erupt into the mouth as it normally should. In other words the tooth is "stuck". Maxillary canines (upper eye teeth) are the most common teeth to become impacted and either do not erupt into the oral cavity or erupt to the buccal (cheek) side or the palatal (roof of mouth) side. Poorly positioned canine teeth can cause the patient's bite to be abnormal and potentially cause damage to the roots to the adjacent teeth. To prevent this from occurring, the patient will need to have an orthodontist place braces on the patient to make adequate room for the canine. The oral and maxillofacial surgeon will then surgically expose the impacted canine and place a bracket on the crown of the tooth. The bracket has a chain attached to it which will be fastened to the arch wire of the braces. The orthodontist will then be able to guide the impacted tooth into the dental arch to its proper place. The doctors at Utah Surgical Arts will work closely with your orthodontist to achieve the highest level of success possible.

Testimonials

At the request of my sister, I decided to have Utah Surgical Arts give me a new, stronger chin. Never being one to really criticize my own chin, at first I was skeptical about how it would turn out. The surgery was fast, Dr Park was great, the recovery was as expected. Looking back after, I'm glad I made the decision to go through with it, my new chin adds adds more confidence to my profile. Dr Park was fantastic to work with both before and after the surgery, and the staff was caring and terrific.
